The Wine

A blend of Merlot (43%), Carmenere (17%), Petit Verdot (17%), Cabernet Sauvignon (8%), Cabernet Franc (7%), and Malbec (7%). A rich and satisfying wine that over-delivers for the modest price.

The wine opens with red fruit aromas, but after a few seconds of good swirling, a second sniff yields plums, spices, smoke with subtle oak notes.

Enjoy while young, or let it age for five to ten years, if you have the space and enjoy the evocative pleasures of bottle bouquet!

The Winery

Founded in 1600s, the estate is within spitting distance of the Gironde, one of the defining rivers of Bordeaux. Given that this area was over-run by swampy river water until the Dutch brought their dyke building techniques to the region a few centuries ago, it's no surprise to find the soils consist primarily of 'graves' - gravel (image). It's these soils that lend the wine its unique characteristics.

The estate's history is filled with missionaries, Saints, battles, revolutions and forced enemy occupation of the estate "without destruction but with much annoyance". But for the past 170-ish years, it has maintained its dedication to the house style and its designation as Cru Bourgeois.
