The Wine

From fruit sourced in Redwood Valley (Mendocino, CA) this wine is a field blend of grapes that are a veritable roll call of Old California varietals when the Mendocino area was dominated by Italian immigrants thirsty for a taste of home. A delicious and surprising blend of Abouriou, Zinfandel, Carignan, Colombard and Valdiguié!

There is a bit of carbonic maceration on a portion of the juice, lending some lifted, high-toned notes of cherries and raspberries to this wine which weighs in at the middle-weight class.  Part of that heft comes after being fermented (with native yeasts, of course) in Stainless Steel then aged in neutral oak for 5-6 months. A bit more of the rewarding palate experience comes from being bottled without fining or filtration - yes, the slight sediment is intentional!

ABV 12%. 400 cases produced.

The Winery

Emme Wines is named for the grandmother of winemaker/owner, Rosalind Reynold. Her winery strives to convey the importance of sustainable agriculture, low intervention winemaking, and community. The wines, which shine a bright light on classic California varietals, are an ode to all the hands that were involved - from the growers and field workers to everyone at the winery, and ultimately to the hand that holds the glass. Rosalind pursued the project in 2018 while working as the assistant winemaker for Pax, and we’re excited to introduce her wines to our community of wine lovers.
