The Wine
Not only was 2016 the vintage of the decade, it is now entering its pime drinking window - an attractive option for those who enjoy aged Barolo but don't have the space and/or patience to lay a wine down and wait.
The Winery
The story of Fogliati is becoming an increasingly common one, where the kids of farmers grow up to be big-city professionals, only to return to the land after a dose of adulting corporate style.
Today's Fogliati is a story of a 'startup' with roots in the history of Castiglione Falletto, a sub-region of Barolo. When Guido Fogliati acquired the estate in 1950 he produced wine under his family label. But following his passing, his descendants decided against wine production, instead selling all their grapes to be used in the wines of their most prominent neighbors.
Full Circle. In 2016, Guido's grandchildren, Annalisa and Guido, left their corporate jobs in the states to revive their family's legacy in Barolo. They enlisted the expertise of the talented winemaker Gian Luca Colombo to craft Nebbiolos renowned for their exceptional purity and refinement; under Annalisa's stewardship and Gian Luca’s vision and expertise, the winery has transitioned to organic farming practices, crafting quality wines by embracing a traditional winemaking approach.
Situated in a truly exceptional location with expansive views, Annalisa's vineyards occupy the northern edge of the renowned Bussia MGA, looking across to the town of nearby Barolo.
