Many of Italy's 500+ wine grapes are virtually unknown in the states, and we delight in introducing their simple pleasures to wine lovers on our side of the pond. This wine is made from two grapes - one is the well-known Chardonnay, the other is Garganega (gar GONE neh-gah), the white grape behind the delicious white wines of the Veneto - Soave. Here it's applied to excellent affect, taking the familiar notes of Chardonnay and creating a synergy that is thrilling and new.
The Winery
In the Veneto, Scaia means "flake of stone" and it is a tribute to the chalky limestone found in their vineyards. It is a relatively young winery, crafting wines that are easy to drink and affordable.
