di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2012 or 2013 (Organic)

Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova has a long history of great press with several 100 point scores under its belt as well as being named the # 1 wine in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2006 with a 97 point score!

Tenuta Nuova is sourced from Pietrodonice and Le Cetine vineyards and is aged in small oak casks for 24 to 30 months according to the vintage and then for at least a year in the bottle. The most amazing part of this wine is its incredible depth of aroma.

Casanova de Neri was founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri who in 1991 handed the reigns down to his son Giacomo and in forty years has established a remarkable reputation. The vineyards consist of 135 acres divided into four distinctive areas; Le Cetine cited in Sant’Angelo, in Colle; Il Pietradonice in Castelnuovo dell’Abate and Il Cerretalto and Il Fiesole, which are found close to the Estate’s farmhouse, directly facing the hill of Montalcino.

Tenuta Nuova is the summit of the di Neri family’s winemaking prowess, sourced from the Pietrodonice and Le Cetine vineyards.   Casanova di Neri is one of the most prestigious names in the international winegrowing sector. The strength of the estate, established in 1971 by Giovanni Neri, continues to lie in the fact that it is a family run concern.

Tenuta Nuova 2012 has balsamic and red fruit notes, while in the mouth shows itself with ripen and silky tannins which are supported by a vibrant finish. It is now enjoyable but capable of ageing for many years. This wine is persistent, velvety, and goes on for minutes once opened. It should be served at 16-17 C° (61-62 F°), opening the bottle at least 2 hours in advance or alternatively decanting gently.

2012 Acclaim
96 James Suckling  Lots of spice, balsamic and ripe-fruit character to this one. Walnut undertones. Full to medium body, a compressed structure of ripe tannins and packed-in fruit. Vibrant finish.

96 Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate The Casanova di Neri 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a beautiful wine that recalls many of the stunning characteristics found in its high-scoring predecessor. I gave a perfect 100 points to the 2010 edition of this same wine. This expression, made two years later, continues in that tradition of excellence. The quality of fruit is profound and intense. The bouquet offers black cherry, spice, leather, balsam herb, cola and licorice. The complexity is absolutely impressive. The mouthfeel, however, is slightly thinner. The classic 2010 vintage is remembered for its twofold punch of elegance and power. Alternatively, the 2012 vintage shows aromatic intensity and less persistence on the finish, generally speaking. Having said that, this remains one Bellissimo Brunello.

2013 Acclaim

98 James Suckling  A vivid and bright red with intense blueberries and raspberries. Floral undertones and tons of citrus, too! Full-bodied, dense and layered. Polished tannins and fantastic fruit. The muscularity of the structure is what gives this wine focus and intensity. So serious for the vintage. Give it time to show its greatness. Drink in 2022. Top 100 Wine Of 2018

97Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate  Casanova di Neri’s 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is celebrating its 20th anniversary (1993-2013), and a special gold-label edition of the wine was made to commemorate this important milestone. I tasted the white label for this review. This is a bold and expressive Brunello that displays tightly knit aromas of Morello cherry, spice, leather and balsam herb that are the building blocks of the most beautiful Brunellos that come to mind. The Casanova di Neri house style implies a modern and sophisticated approach for sure. But the inner spirit and texture of Sangiovese is so fine and polished in its natural state that it hardly matters. The personality of the grape shines through with a loud and confident voice.
