Canetle is located in the heel of Italy's 'boot' in a region called Puglia (pool yuh), also called Apulia.
The warm southern climate is moderated by the nearby Adriatic ocean, but the wines are still generous and full. Like this one, the Salice Salentino (say "sah lee chay" "sah len tee noh").
As with many Italian wine labels, the words Salice Salentino give most of us no clue as to the grapes used, but they must be predominantly Negroamaro (NAY grow ah MAH doh), a deeply-colored, nicely perfumed red wine with earthy characteristics. The best Negroamaro wines come from the region of Salice Salentino, where it is common to blend in a bit of the aromatic red grape Malvasia Nera.
