The Wine

From old vines, planted between 35 and 70 year ago, depending on the plot. The soils vary from clay-and-limestone to sand, the former producing wines of power, the latter wines of elegance, and together, their offspring is more beautiful than either parent. Fermented in large barrels with lees-stirring to add softness to this crisp white wine, offering notes of citrus, white flowers and light bread notes. 

Pair with fish, appetizer courses, fresh cheeses, brunch dishes and especially quiche.

The Winery

The towns around the Metz winery certainly don't sound French - Epfig, Itterswiller, Gertwiller, Obernai and Mittlebergheim. But the Alsace region is home to this wine, and it's a region that has been fought over and passed between France and Germany for centuries. In fact, should you be lucky enough to visit this picture-perfect region, you'll find most everything printed in both German and French - from menus to street signs to hotel room instructions to...

And the language isn't the only thing that's bifurcated. The food is mostly German, but with a French influence that raises the cuisine towards 'haut'!
