The Wine
Aromas of briary fruit, currant, sage, mint and sweet oak. The wine is harvested/crafted for near-term enjoyment with lower tannins and acidity and as such this 2018 vintage should hit its stride in the coming year and through 2028+.

The wine is a blend of all five classic Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and small additions of Petit Verdot and Malbec. The lots are fermented separately using natural fermentations and then aged in French oak for two years. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, leaving the natural product in the bottle - watch for sediment to form after a few years in the bottle - this is totally normal and can be left in the bottle with careful decanting. Enjoy!

3,478 cases produced. "94 Pts" A. Galloni. "93 Pts" Wine & Spirits Magazine.

The Winery
Here's an idea for your bucket list – “Visit Mount Eden Vineyards!

When you do, you’ll find this historic estate at 2000 feet of elevation in the Santa Cruz Mountain AVA. Stand at the winery and look Eastward over all of Silicon Valley. This spot, about 50 miles south of San Francisco, is where the historic predecessor to Mount Eden Winery was founded.

The short version of the winery's history begins in late 1800’s. That's when a young Frenchman named Paul Mason planted the area’s first Pinot and Chardonnay vines using cuttings he brought to the New World from Louis Latour, his friend back home in Burgundy. He named his vineyard La Cresta, and his Paul Mason Champagne Company became a massive success.

But Prohibition put an end to the company's meteoric rise. And by the time it ended in 1933, Paul was too old to run the winery. So he mentored and then passed his torch to a young stockbroker named Martin Ray, who had caught the wine bug (there are some marriages involved, but that's the longer version). Martin Ray owned the property until 1943 when he sold it to plant his bespoke vineyard using cuttings from La Cresta. And that famous Martin Ray Wine Estate eventually became Mount Eden Vineyards.

Such is the history you’ll find beneath this cork!
