The Winery

One of the things we love about working with Old World wines is the multi-generational history of so many European wineries. They seem to have perfected the passing of a family business without all the drama of "Succession". In passing control, the retiring generation also passes deep tradtions, and we know of cases where this has been done for 15 or 16 generations spanning several centuries.

And then there is the Walzer family. Like many of his neighboring producers, Richard came from a family of winegrowers. Unlike many of them, he had a falling out with said family that led to his complete departure from the winery's lineage. I don't know the details, but in his wines we find a silver lining, wines that are thoughtful and intentional at every step. Richard has clearly landed on his feet and is producing some of Austria's most interesting white wines.
