Torre a Cona Vermouth Rosso
Torre a Cona Vermouth Rosso
The Wine
At the soul of this unique Vermouh is the family's recipe from 1920, back when they were called "Martini and Rossi". It includes 33 herbs used in the infusion with the estate sangiovese. The label design is by the artist Massimo Tosi.
The Winery
Torre a Cona (literally, "Tower on a Cone") is located just 40 minutes outside Florence, but it might as well be another world entirely. The 700-are estate is anchored by the main building - an old castle that was built in two phases over hundreds of years, it served as a hospital during WWII and was owned by a family that is part of the Martini & Rossi vermouth fortune, and their descendents own and run the operation today. From the main entryway, you can see for miles. Today it is home to a world-class restaurant, a large salon/bar/tasting area and dozens of top-notch hotel rooms, some of which look out over the old bird sanctuary and topiary garden.
The stunning facility produces three versions of the Chianti Colli Fiorentini, their entry-level wine and two vineyard designated wines, one of which is this one.
