Bercher 2022 Jechtinger Grauburgunder trocken (Pinot Gris)
Bercher 2022 Jechtinger Grauburgunder trocken (Pinot Gris)
The Wine
The loess-rich soils around the village of Jechtingen produce a more delicate style of wine offering a charming counterpoint to some of the bigger Pinots Gris from the area. The impression is tender but well-braced, with a billowing quality to the fruit and a delicious, fruit-and-spice driven finish. It is however a real trocken wine, meaning it is fermented to complete dryness!
The Winery
The Kaiserstuhl can justifiably claim to be the single best-known district of Baden. Its volcanic soils and singularly warm climate give rise to powerful, vibrant Pinots of every type. Cousins Martin and Arne Bercher are the tenth generation of the family to run this highly-reputed estate, and they are members of the VDP (indeed, Arne is V.P. of the Baden chapter). Both speak perfect English, Martin’s coming with a disconcerting Glaswegian twang emanating from a childhood years abroad spent in Scotland!
