The Wine
Clean, orchard‑driven aromatics introduce this wine, featuring white peach, pear, and a gentle floral note. The palate is bright and textured with a mouthwatering crispness that supports richer notes of lemon peel, quince, and subtle honeyed fruit that ends a suggestion of richness without any actual residual sugar. And underneath all the above lies a quiet minerality that leads into a pleasant finish, with a refreshing snap and a hint of salinity.
Pairings: Fresh cheeses (goat cheese, triple creams), definitely shellfish, and most seafoods. Grilled chicken, citrus‑based salads, and lighter dishes such as Thai basil chicken, ginger-heavy stir fry, and anything lemongrass. Cheese fans can reach for Crottin, St. Maure, or a young bloomy rind.
The Winery
Mason Road is a small, quality‑focused winery built around the versatility of Chenin Blanc and they're a big part of the South African Chenin renaissance.
The team sources fruit from cooler sites that preserve the grape's natural acidity and aromatic detail, then ferments with a light touch to keep the wine clean, expressive, and vineyard‑driven. Their approach favors restrained winemaking - neutral vessels, careful handling, and minimal intervention - resulting in a Chenin Blanc that is crisp, modern, and built for both food pairing and everyday drinking.
