The Wine

Unlike certain leaders we hear from daily, we aren't so brash as to claim this as THE GREATEST Rueda you can find at any price. But we've heard it so often from other people that we at least allow ourselves to pass along the compliment. 

It is Xavi Buil’s conviction that only pure Verdejo yields a wine true to the region. In the face of this wine’s explosively musky nose, its suave texture enlivened by vivid acidity, and its prodigious palate coverage, there is little room for argument. A benchmark if ever there was one. The wine is also unusually long-lived. I've been told screw-capped 2013 is still entirely fresh! 

100% Verdejo from 35 year old vines in Castilla y Leon, Spain.  Aromas and flavors of  pineapple, pear, mango, kiwi, passion-fruit balanced with distinct citrus flavors.  Expressive fruit with well balanced acidity. 

Pairs well with salads, seafood, shellfish and goat cheeses.

The Winery

The Buil and Giné family returned to their winemaking roots in the rapidly evolving Priorat region in 1996 and since then have expanded into neighboring Montsant, as well as Rueda and Toro.

The defining thread linking their wines is one of pure fruit expression, a richness without heaviness and at an excellent price-quality ratio. Xavier Buil, the proprietor from the current generation, shows an uncanny sensibility and instinct for proportion and is now a seasoned veteran of his craft. The winery has become a showcase for the region, with a swank hotel and tasting room as part of their agrotourism offering.
