Ch Haut-Rian 2024 Bordeaux Blanc
The Wine
This is white Bordeaux from the "Entre-deux-Mers" region (between two seas is the literal translation, though in reality, the region lies between two massive rivers that define the Bordeaux region!). It is a wine of joy, with no oak or pretense, just a delicious blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon humming with citrus and minerality.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of lemon-lime zest, honeydew melon and crushed seashells. There’s a touch of newly cut hay and grapefruit pith that leads into a palate of bright acidity and spiced apples and a mineral-driven finish with a saline snap.
Pairings: Oysters, goat cheese (fresh or aged, though a fresh chèvre is the classic pairing here), grilled asparagus (one of the few wines that pair well here!), or a chilled pea soup with mint. It’s a natural with shellfish and spring vegetables. Also brilliant with a lemony pasta.
This is a wine that wants to be drunk young, well chilled, and with friends. But we offer a word of caution - it’s the sort of wine that disappears before you realize it’s gone.
The 2022 Bordeaux Blanc is a snapshot of place and season—vibrant, affordable, and full of character. It’s the kind of wine that could easily become your house white. 13% ABV
The Winery
Founded in 1983 by Michel Dietrich, a winemaker who gained experience working in Alsace and Australia. The estate spans 200 acres, with vines planted on clay-limestone soils exposed to Atlantic breezes.
Today the winemaker at Haut-Rian is Pauline Lapierre (photo), daughter of founders Michel and Isabelle Dietrich. Pauline joined the team in 2017 after studying oenology at SupAgro Montpellier and took the helm in 2019. Her husband is William Lapierre, who joined the team in 2020, bringing his expertise in viticulture and oenology.
Together, they lead the estate with a focus on sustainable, organic, and biodynamic practices, balancing tradition with a fresh, hands-on approach. Founder Michel Dietrich remains involved in this family affair as a mentor and tasting advisor.
Their philosophy is simple: let the land speak. Farming is sustainable, vinification is clean, and the wines are made to be enjoyed—not cellared, not fussed over. Just poured, shared, and remembered.
