Cirelli Trebbiano Anfora
The Winery
Francesco Cirelli is, first and foremost, a farmer who is more comfortable in his farmer's hat (which he wears to many of his tastings) and in the vineyard or cellar than he is out promoting his wines (which, ironically, makes him very good at such events).
He stands above many of his peers in Abruzzo because he sees his farm as a living ecosystem rather than a winery with a few supporting crops. His55-acre estate integrates vineyards, olive groves, vegetables, fruit trees, and free‑grazing animals into a single regenerative loop, where natural fertilization, crop rotation, and minimal intervention form the backbone of his philosophy.
He came to agriculture after studying economics and even attending the Italian Navy College, but the pull of the land—and the idea that farming is a vocation rooted in humility and stewardship—reshaped his life’s direction.
His approach in the cellar mirrors his farming: spontaneous fermentations, low sulfur, and a deep affection for clay amphorae, which he values for their neutrality and the physical intimacy they demand during winemaking. The result is a portfolio that feels soulful and expressive, wines that balance purity with playfulness and carry the imprint of a landscape he works hard to protect.
