Cruess 2024 Pinot Noir West Sonoma Coast
Cruess 2024 Pinot Noir West Sonoma Coast
The Wine
A bright, high‑toned expression of California's coastal Pinot. The wine's aromas are a bit stingy at first, largely because they are not so much fruit-dominant. Look for hints of poached plums with spices, herbal tea, and damp earth - evidence of the wine's cool, fog‑laden vineyard origins.
On the palate, the wine is both lively and finely structured - look for both lively acidity and a mineral edge that keeps the fruit lifted and focused. Red and black berries glide across the mid‑palate with a sleek, persistent texture, finishing with an ethereal lift described by the estate as “what Pinot Noir dreams are made of!.”
Whether you dream of Pinot or not, you'll have to agree this wine beautifully balances its coastal tension with a sense of easy drinkability. If opened before 2027, decant for an hour so the wine can fully unfurl its aromas and texture.
The Winery
Cruess is a small, quality‑driven producer working with grapes from various cool‑climate vineyards in Sonoma County. In addition to this wine, from grapes grown in the West Sonoma Coast, they also produce wines from Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley.
In the cellar, Cruess extends the 'minimal intervention' mantra formed in the vineyard. Fermentations are gentle and designed to preserve aromatics, and aging takes place in neutral or lightly used oak to bestow lift rather than add weight.
