Desire Lines Winds of Change Syrah

Desire Lines wines was founded by Cody and Emily Rasmussen, two dashing transplants from Iowa.  They were inspired by their coming-of-age wines from the 1970s and 1980s and, quite possibly (though I don't know for certain), a dislike for stupidly cold winters. 

Cody, once assistant winemaker at the iconic Bedrock Wine Co., describes their philosophy as “neo-classical” though Emily maintains that isn’t a sensible way to describe winemaking. Sorry Emily, we're going with Cody on this one!

The 2021 Winds of Change Syrah includes a good chunk of fruit from Santa Barbara County – 68% to be exact - with the remainder sourced from the North Coast appellation. 

All lots were fermented with some whole cluster inclusion, and the wines were raised almost exclusively in large 500 liter barrels without racking. No new oak was used. 

What's that all mean exactly?  The result is a well-balanced, elegant Syrah with beautiful black and blue fruit, supple terroir influences and soft tannins. 

Perfect with barbeque, mushroom dishes and pizza.  Neo-Classical? You bet!
