The Wine

Red Burgundy has seen a bit of bad press lately, but not because the wines aren't good. It's just because the wines got SO expensive when the Billionaire collectors left no room for the mere Millionaires.

This wine is much more democratic, making itself available to the rest of us at an affordable price around $30. It's a lot of wine for the money and that reads VALUE for this classic Pinot Noir from northern Burgundy's Cotes D'Auxerre, close to Chablis.

The wine introduces itself with aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and wild strawberries, accented by subtle floral notes and a touch of earthiness. On the palate, the wine is light to medium-bodied, with lively acidity and fine, silky tannins that give structure without heaviness.

The fruit is pure and precise, supported by a mineral edge that reflects the limestone-rich soils of the Auxerrois. The finish is fresh and elegant.

Pairings: This versatile wine enhances a wide variety of dishes, from charcuterie to roast poultry to soft cheeses. Approachable now, the wine has enough balance to develop further some beautiful bottle bouquet over the next 5-7 years, if you have the space and patience to store the wine.

The Winery

Domaine Félix is a family-run estate based in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, just southwest of Chablis.

The domaine has long roots in the region and is known for producing wines that highlight the distinctive terroir of a region often overshadowed by its famous neighbor. Because of the efforts of producers like Domaine Felix, the Cotes D'Auxerre is increasingly recognized for its quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at affordable prices.

The family vineyards are sustainably farmed, with careful attention to vineyard health and biodiversity above and below the soil line, while still embracing modern techniques to ensure consistency in the cellar. Their philosophy emphasizes authenticity and accessibility, crafting wines that are true to place yet enjoyable for a wide audience.

This wine is a great spokesperson for their approach, a terroir-driven Pinot Noir that captures the freshness and finesse of northern Burgundy.
