The Wine

A classic Red Burgundy showing the robust yet refined character of the wines from Pommard within the broader Cote de Beune.

Expressive aromas of ripe red cherries, blackcurrants, and wild berries, layered with subtle notes of violets, earth, and a touch of baking spices. On the palate, the wine is structured and full-bodied, with firm tannins that are already beginning to soften, balanced by lively acidity.

The fruit is concentrated yet elegant, supported by mineral undertones that reflect the limestone and clay soils of the Côte de Beaune. The finish is long and persistent, with a savory edge that makes the wine approachable now but also able to develop enticing complexity as it ages.

Pairings: Roast duck, beef bourguignon, Coq au vin or aged cheeses.

The Winery

Domaine Virely-Rougeot, is a family-run estate based in Pommard, with roots in Burgundy that stretch back several generations.

The domaine is known for its dedication to traditional viticulture and careful, small-scale winemaking, emphasizing authenticity and terroir expression in their small lot production. Their vineyards are planted primarily to Pinot Noir, with parcels in Pommard and surrounding appellations, farmed with respect for the land to ensure healthy vines and balanced fruit.

In the cellar, the approach combines classic Burgundian including French oak aging to highlight the natural character of the grapes. The philosophy is centered on producing wines that are both true to their origin and accessible in the near term, offering depth, elegance, and a clear sense of place.
