Famiglia Pasqua Amarone Della Valpolicella DOCG
We give lots of wine advice to our customers, but one of the wisest bits we dispense is "don't fall in love with Amarone unless you have deep pockets!"
It makes sense they'd be expensive, as the rules of the land dictate the grapes must be dried for months, losing 30% - 45% of their weight, prior to fermentation. This, combined with long aging prior to release (the norm is at least 5 years), contributes to the wine's higher price.
But this one from the Pasqua family is a gem in that it is priced below the average Amarone and over-delivers for the money!
If you're a fan of big, bold red wines with low acidity, flavors of warm leather / dried fruit balanced by robust alcohol levels (by law, the ABV must be at least 14%, but the average is around 15%), then by all means, you really should add this wine to your shopping list.
