The Winery
Filipa is the daughter of legendary Bairrada producer, Luis Pato, and she began producing wines in the larger appellations of Beiras the Dão. She purchased a small winery in Bairrada, which she has now significantly expanded (by digging downwards!).
Eventually, it is assumed, she will reunite with her father’s estate, but that's been a topic that seems to get pushed farther and farther down the agenda as she continues to develop an ever-bigger international name for herself! Her wines are known as strikingly expressive and honest wines, a reflection of her own infectiously joyous character. Joined now by her husband, renowned Belgian sommelier Willem Wouters, they have enthusiastically embraced the rigours of bio-dynamism.
Together, the duo have been steadily buying up new parcels of land, all within a short drive of the home-base. Some of the vineyards are planted to old vines, others being replanted with massal selections (cuttings from desireable vineyards they know). The estate is up to 36 acres now, moving towards their final vision of 50 acres.
As you can see from the sporadic presence on our shelves, these wines regularly sell out.
