The Wine

Gouleyant Malbec de Cahors is the kind of bottle you open on a whim and end up talking about long after the first glass. It shows a bright, juicy side of Malbec, with black cherry and plum layered with a hint of violet and a gentle spice. The tannins are smooth, with a relaxed welcoming feel. The winemaking leans toward a lighter touch, with very little oak and careful extraction so the fruit stays front and center. I like this expression of Malbec is also offers a level of quality that feels like a small discovery for the price.

Pairings: This would be great with Raclette. There’s something about that warm, melted cheese and the way the wine’s fresh, dark fruit cuts right through it that just works. As the Raclette gets nice and silky, the wine keeps things from feeling too heavy. Add a few roasted potatoes or a little cured meat and it all comes together in a really easy, satisfying way that makes you want another glass.

The Winery

This wine comes from the historic Cahors region in southwest France, a place known for deeper, more structured expressions of Malbec. Gouleyant offers a fresh perspective on that tradition. It is produced by a group of growers who focus on approachability while still respecting the character of the region. The vineyards stretch across limestone plateaus and riverbank terraces along the lot, bringing both lift and depth to the wine. With an emphasis on sustainable farming and thoughtful cellar work, the goal is simple, capture the essence of the place in a way that feels recognizable and inviting.
