The Wine

A blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (60%/40%) from the Gascony region of Bordeaux. The 2022 Triton from Domaine Haut Marin opens with a bright, sea‑sprayed freshness that hints at its Gascon origins.

The nose is lively and aromatic with hints of grapefruit zest, lime, green apple, and white peach, all on top of a subtle mineral/saline foundation. On the palate, the wine is crisp, light‑bodied, and vibrant, driven by the region’s signature blend of Colombard, Sauvignon Blanc, and Gros Manseng. Citrus and orchard fruit dominate, but there’s also a gentle tropical whisper—passionfruit, pineapple—that rounds out the acidity without softening its snap. The finish is clean, refreshing, and quietly herbal, making the wine feel both uncomplicated and beautifully expressive of Côtes de Gascogne’s breezy terroir.

The Winery

Domaine Haut Marin is a family‑run estate in the heart of the Côtes de Gascogne, overseen by the Prataviera‑Ducournau family, who have been cultivating vines here for generations. Elizabeth Prataviera is the latest generation to take the helm, and she is now making the family's wines with a focus on classic regional varietals. The Domaine sits on ancient marine soils rich in fossils, which give the wines their hallmark salinity and mineral tension.

The estate focuses on fresh, aromatic wines crafted in a clean, modern style that emphasizes purity and vibrancy. Their “Triton” cuvée is part of a series inspired by the region’s geological history, each wine named for a marine figure to reflect the fossil‑laden terroir beneath the vines.

Haut Marin has become one of the most reliable names in Gascony for value‑driven, expressive wines that deliver brightness, drinkability, and a clear sense of place.
