"Cremant" is the word used by French winemakers whose sparkling wines are crafted using the Champagne METHOD but are located OUTSIDE of the specified boundary for Champagne. This wine is made using the same practices - secondary fermentation in the bottle, the bottle undergoes lees aging for many months and is then disgorged and a small dosage is added prior to bottling.

Such wines offer exceptional value as they don't as they don't have the marketing power of the prestigious region of Champagne.  LOTS of bang for your buck here!

LIMOUX?

The Limoux wine region is located in the eastern foothills of the Pyrénées in southern France, south of the fortified city of Carcassonne.

Wine historians believe the world's first sparkling wine was produced in this region in 1531 by the monks at the abbey in Saint-Hilaire. Called 'Blanquette de Limoux', it is considered to be the first sparkling wine produced in France, created long before the Champagne region became world-renowned.

The region's unique topography and the combination of Mediterranean and Atlantic influences have created ideal conditions for the slow, even ripening of the region's white wine grapes. Despite being located at a southerly latitude, the climate is cooler than most wine regions in southern France, providing the growing conditions needed for great sparkling wines.
