The Wine

A blend of 32% Syrah, 31% Mourvèdre, 29% Grenache, and 8% Carignane, all from vines averaging over 40 years old.

Perfumed and complex aromatics provide a preview of dark berry, currant, and black plum, layered with earthy tones of dark salty licorice (leaning towards tar) and leather and subtle baking spice and cocoa. On the palate, the aromatic preview comes into full view, with fruit and spice notes supporting a supple texture and generous mid‑palate volume, finishing with approachable tannins that can support aging if one has the patience and space to do so - but don't fret if you're missing either as the wine is delish right now. 14.1% ABV

Pairings: As with most red Rhone blends, pair with hearty dishes such as lamb chops grilled with rosemary and garlic, braised meats, grilled sausages or pork shoulder with a rub featuring Moroccan or Mediterranean flavors over traditional BBQ rubs. Also shines with ratatouille, mushroom ragu on cheesy polenta, and cheeses such as OG Kristal, Prima Donna, Pecorino Romano and washed rind cheeses like Taleggio or Red Hawk.

The Winery

Preston Farm & Winery is a family‑run icon in Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley (DCV). This AVA is one of Sonoma’s smallest AVAs and is home to many sustainably farmed, family‑owned vineyards. DCV has a reputation for particularly good Rhône varieties, Zinfandel, and Sauvignon Blanc.

The winery was founded in the 1970s by Lou Preston and his wife Susan. Together, they became early and avid advocates of organic farming, biodiversity and Rhone varieties, long before they were on everyone's lips. Over time, this enthusiasm led them to regenerative farming, involving orchards, olive trees, sheep, vegetables and grains - all in support of their belief that great wine isn't possible without a healthy, living ecosystem.
