The Wine

This is a classic Rioja built from Tempranillo with a small portion of Graciano sourced from estate vineyards in Rodezno and Fuenmayor.

The wine is fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. It is then aged for six years in American oak barrels crafted by the estate, with an average barrel age of about four and a half years.

During barrel aging, the wine is traditionally racked six times, preserving clarity and finesse without aggressive filtration. After bottling, it rests further in the cellar before release, giving it the extended aging profile that defines the house style.

The wine shows a clean, bright cherry‑red hue with garnet reflections. Aromas include red fruits, wild berries, balsamic notes, vanilla, toasted spice, and subtle cedar. The palate is balanced and fresh, offering polished tannins, lively acidity, and a long, elegant finish shaped by its careful élevage.

Pairings: This Reserva pairs well with roasted meats, stews, seasoned fish, and classic Spanish dishes. Its freshness and structure make it versatile at the table. For cheese, a semi‑aged Manchego or a firm cow’s‑milk tomme works beautifully with its red‑fruit and balsamic profile.

The Winery

La Rioja Alta is one of Rioja’s most respected traditional estates, known for meticulous vineyard work, long aging in American oak, and patient bottle maturation.

Viña Arana reflects the house’s commitment to classic methods: careful grape selection, restrained winemaking, and extended time in barrel with traditional racking. The result is a wine that balances freshness, structure, and aromatic complexity, offering a refined expression of Rioja Alta’s historic style.
