Laurent Martray 2022 "Les Feuillees" Cote de Brouilly (Gamay, Beaujolais)
Laurent Martray 2022 "Les Feuillees" Cote de Brouilly (Gamay, Beaujolais)
The Wine
A lush, structured Gamay from old vines on Mont Brouilly, offering ripe stone fruit, floral lift, and Burgundian finesse with age-worthy depth.
This wine is crafted from 100% Gamay grapes grown on the southern slopes of Mont Brouilly in the “Les Feuillées” vineyard. The vines—planted between 1916 and 1945—are rooted in dark clay soils with blue volcanic stones, a terroir that lends the wine its mineral tension and aromatic complexity. The vineyard is cultivated organically, without pesticides, and with the goal of nourishing the biodiversity above and below the land.
The wine was hand-harvested and vinified using whole bunches over 10–12 days, following the traditional approach in Beaujolais. Aging took place in oak foudres, which lend subtle texture without masking the fruit. The wine's aromas feature Morello cherry, dried rose petals, and stone fruits in syrup. On the palate, it’s juicy and full-bodied, with fine, perfectly coated tannins. The finish reveals notes of violet, black pepper, and blood orange. It’s a wine that seduces immediately but will continue to evolve gracefully for years.
Pairings: duck confit with lentils, grilled pork chops in cherry compote, roast chicken with herbs de Provence, or cheeses such as aged Comte, Tomme or a triple cream Brillat Savarin.
The Winery
Laurent Martray is a third-generation winemaker based in Odenas, in the foothills of Mont Brouilly. He began making wine in 1987 after studying oenology and viticulture, but it wasn't until 2019 that he acquired some of the finest terroirs in Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly. His brother Christian, one of France’s most respected sommeliers, helped connect him to legendary vintners, shaping Laurent’s thoughtful, terroir-focused style.
The estate has earned high praise, including 3 stars from Bettane & Desseauve and a 92-point rating from Wine Advocate for the 2022 vintage. Martray’s wines are known for their Burgundian elegance, expressive fruit, and aging potential. “Les Feuillées” is a standout example of Côte de Brouilly’s depth and charm,
