Maculan Breganze Torcolato 2022 (375ml)

The Wine

This dessert wine comes to us from the Veneto region of Northern Italy (which also produces Valpolicella, Amarone, Prosecco...). It was crafted by the Maculan winery located in the Breganze hills. The wine is made using the 'Passito' process, where the grapes are dried for four months prior to fermentation to create intense flavors and a higher ratio of sugar. The wine is made exclusively from a type of grape called Vespaiola, which is one of the hundreds of obscure grapes the Italians have perfected over their thousands of years of winemaking.

The wine oozes with delicious, unctuous aromas of honey, flowers and spice. On the palate it is surprisingly fresh, the richness offset by the grapes' natural acidity, with notes of stone fruits, dried apricot, and beeswax. 

Pairings - Fruit-based desserts, especially if baked (tarts, pastries, etc.) or with cheeses, go to an aged Assiago or intense blue cheeses.
