Minus Tide
The Wine
With enticing, red‑fruit aromas, this is a classic expression of Anderson Valley. Pale ruby with a bright, translucent rim, it opens with aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, pomegranate, rose petal and cranberry, layered with subtle notes of dried herb, sweet spices, forest floor and a subtle mineral edge. The perfume is vivid but enticing, not overpowering, reflecting the vineyard’s fog‑influenced microclimate.
The palate is elegant, with crunchy red fruit, tart cherry skin, while sweet raspberry and blood orange glide through the palate shaped by lively acidity and ultra‑fine tannins. A gentle herbal thread, hints of pine needle and a touch of savory spice add complexity without weight. The finish is long, precise and mineral-driven, showing the clarity and restraint that define Minus Tide’s style.
Hacienda Sequoia sits on the deep, cool end of Anderson Valley, where morning fog, afternoon breezes and well‑drained soils produce Pinot Noir with natural freshness and aromatic lift. Hand harvesting, whole‑berry fermentation and aging in mostly neutral French oak preserve purity and texture. The 2023 vintage, marked by a long, even growing season, yielded fruit of exceptional balance and finesse.
Pairings: Roast salmon, duck breast, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, herb‑accented chicken and lighter preparations where bright red fruit and fine tannins enhance the meal. Cheese-wise, reach for our soft‑ripened cheeses such as Brie, Camembert and Mt Tam, or washed‑rind cheeses like Red Hawk or Taleggio. A cheese-friendly wine that includes semi‑firm options like Gruyère, Comté or aged Gouda. For a local touch, Humboldt Fog mirrors the wine’s elegance!
The Winery
Minus Tide is a small, coastal‑focused winery founded by three friends committed to crafting transparent, site‑specific wines from the far western edges of Mendocino County. Their work centers on cool‑climate vineyards shaped by fog, wind and marine influence, producing wines with natural acidity, lifted aromatics and a distinct sense of place.
The team partners closely with growers who farm sustainably and often organically, emphasizing careful canopy management, low yields and thoughtful stewardship of older vines. In the cellar, their approach is minimal: native fermentations, gentle extraction and restrained oak use that supports rather than obscures fruit.
Based in Mendocino, Minus Tide has quickly become one of the region’s most compelling young producers, known for Pinot Noir, Syrah and white wines that balance purity, energy and coastal character. The Hacienda Sequoia bottling exemplifies their philosophy - bright, aromatic and inspired by Anderson Valley’s cool, forested landscape.
