The Wine

'Bricco' translates as ‘hilltop’ and the vineyard that is at the top of the Caramelli Hill is a prestige address if you’re a Dolcetto vine. Here you'll find perfect soils and perfect exposure, and the Mossio brothers pick only the best grapes from this plot to go into this wine. It is a single vineyard of just under 2.5 acres, planted in the 1960s to 100% Dolcetto.

Tasting Notes: The wine's intense aromas hint at plums, blackberry and red fruits, ending with a spiced finish. On the palate look for hints of plum, prune, blackberry and red fruit, spices and a very pleasant herbal flair. Soft and full with a nutty finish typical of Dolcetto. The rich texture of this wine makes it hard to believe it is done completely in stainless steel.

14-14.5% ABV and produced in miniscule quantities. A relative bargain, given its pedigree.

Pairings: Serve this wine chilled to about 60-65 F and bring on the appetizers! It plays well with most any meat roasted or brazed, dishes with truffles or mushrooms and aged or seasoned cheeses.

The Winery

Fratelli Mossio is located in Rodello, a small village between Barolo and Barbaresco in Northern Italy's Piemonte region. The town has seen more than a few vintages - its ancient wine history dates back to the 1300's.

The family's website is translated into English with such rustic charm, we dare not edit from its original version:

The Langa and Roero wine and food heritage needs to be passed on and protected…

A knowledge conscious of the passing of time and seasons which is not easy to narrate, especially when we realize that the personality and unique character of this territory was able to attract tourists from all over the world. This was supported by the recent recognition of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato wine-growing landscapes as Unesco World Heritage.

An appeal which, in autumn, is caused by the bouquet of wine and the flavor of the white truffle of Alba; in spring and summer the cooking innovates with appetizers made with vegetables, meat and the first courses are characterized by “tajarin” (home-made noodles) and “agnolotti del plin” (home-made stuffed pasta)…We don’t leave out the Fassone meat, the cheeses and also the desserts with their unmistakable taste of “Tonda e Gentile” (round and gentle) hazelnut from the Langhe.

To discover us is a true pleasure…
