The Wine
This is the second wine of Château Dauzac, the renowned Fifth Growth estate of Margaux.
Produced from a parcel selection of vines rooted in fine sandy gravel soils, the wine is designed to emphasise fruit purity, accessibility and the elegant character of the Margaux appellation. The 2023 vintage is composed of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot, with aging carried out for twelve months in a combination of French oak barrels and oak vats, preserving freshness while adding texture and complexity.
Expressive aromas show notes of red currant, black cherry and cassis alongside delicate floral accents of violet and hibiscus. Subtle hints of crushed stone, cedar and spice add complexity.
The finish carries lingering notes of dark berries, floral nuances and gentle oak spice. The overall impression is one of freshness, balance and refinement, with sufficient structure for medium-term ageing.
Pairings: Roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, veal chops, mushroom dishes, aged Comté, Tomme de Savoie, or hard sheep's milk cheeses. The wine's combination of elegance and structure makes it particularly well suited to refined meat dishes and classic French cuisine.
The Producer
Château Dauzac is one of the historic classified growths of Margaux, recognized as a Fifth Growth in the famous 1855 Classification of Bordeaux.
Situated in the commune of Labarde within the Margaux appellation, the estate is known for producing wines that combine power, precision and the distinctive perfume for which Margaux is celebrated. The vineyard benefits from deep gravel soils that are particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon.
In recent years, the estate has placed significant emphasis on sustainable viticulture and precision vineyard management. Organic fertilization, hand harvesting and careful plot-by-plot vinification allow the character of each parcel to be expressed individually. Aurore de Dauzac was created to provide an earlier-drinking interpretation of the estate's terroir while maintaining the elegance, aromatic complexity and ageing potential associated with the Dauzac name. The wine serves as an accessible introduction to one of Margaux's most respected properties.
