The Wine
Bodegas Mustiguillo’s Mestizaje Blanco 2023 is a fresh, expressive Mediterranean white built around the obscure but delicious grape, Merseguera, that is an indigenous variety the estate has championed and revived.
The wine opens with bright notes of pear, white peach, and citrus, layered with subtle floral tones and a gentle herbal lift. On the palate it is crisp and medium‑light, showing clean orchard‑fruit flavors, a touch of salinity, and the quiet, stony minerality that comes from Mustiguillo’s high‑elevation limestone soils.
The finish is brisk and lightly savory, with a soft echo of citrus and Mediterranean herbs.
Pairings: Seafood, vegetable dishes, salads, and simple tapas and anything featuring olive oil or fresh herbs. Cheese-wise, reach for our young goat cheeses, a young Manchego or Pecorino and fresh cow's milk cheeses (tomme style or slightly aged).
The Winery
Bodegas Mustiguillo is one of Spain’s most respected modern estates, located in the high, inland hills of Valencia near Utiel‑Requena.
Founded by Toni Sarrión, the winery is known for elevating native varieties, especially Bobal and Merseguera, through meticulous vineyard work, organic farming, and low‑intervention winemaking. Their vineyards sit at 2,800 feet of elevation, where cool nights preserve acidity and the region’s limestone‑rich soils contribute a distinctive mineral profile.
