The Wine

A fruit‑forward Barbera showing notes of black cherry, plum, and wild berry lifted by secondary aromas of violet, spice, and a touch of earth. The palate is juicy and medium‑bodied, with Barbera’s signature bright acidity, supple tannins, and a clean, mouthwatering finish.

Fresh, true to the grape, and deliciously drinkable.

Pairings: Pizza, eggplant Parmesan, Vitello Tonato (a Piemonte tradition!), stuffed/roasted peppers, roast chicken, pork chops grilled with garlic and rosemary, lamb, sausages sauteed with peppers and onions... a very food friendly wine spanning a wide array of dishes! Cheese pairing ideas - Fontina, Taleggio, Robiola, young Pecorino, and any semi-soft, creamy or washed-rind cheeses.

The Winery

Bovio is a respected, family‑run estate in Piemonte's La Morra sub-zone (the region produces elegant wines from the Nebbiolo grape). Bovio's house style supports wines that balance tradition with precision, a wine-Geek term used to describe producers that emphasize the characteristics of the grape and vineyard.

Their vineyards sit on prime Langhe hillsides, and the cellar philosophy emphasizes gentle extraction, temperature‑controlled fermentation, and aging that preserves purity of fruit. “Il Ciotto” reflects Bovio’s house style—elegant, approachable, and terroir‑driven, showcasing Barbera’s natural charm and energy.
