The Wine

A classic expression of Chavignol Sauvignon Blanc - a prized growing region due to its soil type called Caillottes. The slopes surrounding Chavignol consist of small, white, broken limestone soils that are fast‑draining, and low in fertility, forcing vines to work hard, yielding wines that are exceptionally bright, high‑toned, and pure.

The wine shows pale straw color and aromatics of citrus, white flowers, and crushed limestone. The palate is taut, dry, and mineral-driven with bright acidity and the clean, stony precision that comes from the village’s famed caillottes soils. A textbook Sancerre built on clarity rather than exuberance.

Pairings: Fresh goat cheeses, shellfish, simple fish dishes, salads with citrus or herbs, and light vegetable preparations that echo the wine’s bright, mineral profile.

The Winery

Domaine André Vatan is a small, family‑run estate in Chavignol, long known for producing pure, classically styled Sancerre.

The family farms limestone‑rich parcels that consistently yield Sauvignon Blanc of finesse and lift. Winemaking is restrained — gentle pressing, cool stainless‑steel fermentations — preserving the grape’s natural aromatics and the region’s hallmark minerality. The 2024 bottling continues the domaine’s tradition of precision and understated craftsmanship
