The Wine
Cru and Village Beaujolais are enjoying a well-deserved moment. After toiling for decades in the shadow of their neighbor to the north (Burgundy), and with the albatross of the cheap wines known as Nouveau Beaujolais, wines from the 10 crus have managed to overcome this challenge of perceptions to get their Gamay-based wines the objective evaluations they deserve.
This wine is from Chiroubles, the highest-elevation of the ten crus known for wines that are light, floral, approachable and perfectly aligned with today's tastes.
And here we have a classic expression of Chiroubles’ high‑altitude elegance, showing bright red cherry, raspberry, and violet with a subtle hint of spice. The palate is light to medium in body, silky, and vibrant, carried by fresh acidity and the gentle tannin structure typical of Chiroubles. The finish is clean, mineral-driven, and quietly persistent.
Pairings: Roast chicken, charcuterie, salmon, mushroom dishes, herb‑driven salads or simple pastas and soft, creamy cheeses.
The Winery
Domaine Cheysson is one of Chiroubles’ historic estates, known for steep hillside vineyards that sit among the highest elevations in Beaujolais. These slopes give the wines their hallmark lift, finesse, and floral character.
Farming is careful and traditional, and winemaking emphasizes gentle extraction and clarity — allowing Gamay’s natural brightness and the village’s airy, granite‑driven terroir to shine.
