The Wine
A classic version of this light red wine from this cooler corner of the French Alps.
In the glass you'll notice a pale, translucent ruby color that leans more toward transparency than density. Aromas feature red currant, cranberry, and wild strawberry, followed by rose petal, dried herb, and a gentle woodland spice. There’s a fine mineral line beneath it all that keeps the wine feeling taut and lifted.
On the palate, the wine is brisk and feather‑light, with crunchy red fruit, bright acidity, and the sandy, fine tannins that mark well‑grown Trousseau. A savory thread—white pepper, dried leaf, a touch of citrus peel—runs through the mid‑palate, giving shape without weight. The finish is clean, refreshing, and persistent, the sort of wine that pairs well with a wide variety of dishes.
Pairings: Roast chicken, pork tenderloin, mushroom dishes, and dish where herbs form the dominant seasoning. Cheese-wise reach for Alpine cheeses such as Comté and Tomme de Savoie, or lighter washed‑rinds like Raclette or Taleggio.
The Winery
Domaine Faudot is a small, family‑run estate in Arbois, working parcels that have been tended across multiple generations. Their approach is firmly rooted in Jura tradition: careful farming, restrained cellar work, and an emphasis on expressing the character of each site. Tour Canoz, one of their key vineyards, sits on the region’s classic mix of marl and limestone, soils that give Trousseau its combination of aromatic lift and savory depth.
The domaine farms with a light hand, favoring sustainable practices and minimal chemical input, allowing the vines to respond naturally to the region’s cool climate and varied exposures. In the cellar, the winemaking is intentionally gentle—native fermentations, modest extraction, and aging that avoids overt oak influence.
Their watchword is 'transparency' - crafting wines that are expressive of their region, its soils, and its long lineage of growers.
