The Wine
Patrimonio Rouge is always rooted in the native grape, Niellucciu, and this wine shows the grape in its most classical northern‑Corsican form: red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose, and a subtle herbal note that feels like the island’s maquis (mah KEE - the aromatics that permeate the air on the island) carried on cool coastal air.
The soils in Patrimonio are a mix of decomposed granite and pockets of limestone, and that combination gives the wine both lift and structure — bright fruit on the surface, firm but fine tannins underneath. This vintage is especially clean and transparent, a characteristic the producers chose to emphasize by fermenting in stainless steel, then aged without heavy oak influence, letting the mineral line dominate the wine. The finish is dry, savory, and quietly stony.
Pairings: Perfect with grilled lamb, herb‑roasted chicken, charcuterie, tomato‑based dishes, and aged sheep’s milk cheeses. The wine’s mix of red fruit and herbal tension makes it a natural match for Mediterranean flavors.
The Winery
Domaine Ligenda is part of the new generation of Patrimonio producers focusing on clarity, organic farming, and expressing the region’s unique blend of granite foothills and limestone outcrops.
Their vineyards sit in the northern part of the appellation, where sea breezes and diurnal shifts keep Niellucciu fresh and aromatic. The cellar approach is minimal — native yeasts, stainless steel, and gentle extraction — all aimed at preserving the purity of fruit and the unmistakable Corsican terroir.
