The Wine

A classic, elegant expression of dry Chenin Blanc from one of the Loire’s most respected family Domaines.

The fruit comes from hillside parcels of flinty clay over tuffeau limestone - the Loire Valley’s signature bedrock of soft, fine‑grained, highly porous Cretaceous limestone formed about 90 million years ago when the region lay beneath a shallow sea. These soils give the wine both its lifted aromatics and its firm mineral spine. The 2022 vintage was generous and clean in Vouvray, and Le Marigny vineyard reflects that delicious dynamic, yielding a wine expressive of ripe orchard fruits, white flowers, and a touch of honeyed warmth balanced by bright acidity and a chalk‑inflected finish.

The palate offers notes of pear, quince, and citrus peel with a subtle waxy texture that is typical of well‑made Vouvray. It is a dry bottling, but the grape’s natural richness gives it a rounded, satisfying feel without sacrificing freshness.

Pairings: Soft cheeses, roast chicken, pork loin, shellfish, and dishes with gentle spice or cream. Cheese-wise, reach for Farmstead’s goat cheeses and washed‑rind selections.

The Winery

Domaine Pichot is a long‑established estate run by the Pichot family, who farm roughly 60 acres across several prized sites in the Vouvray appellation. Their work emphasizes careful vineyard management, hand harvesting, and slow, patient cellar practices that allow Chenin Blanc to express both its varietal character and the nuances of Vouvray’s limestone soils.

The Domaine produces wines across the full stylistic range—dry, off‑dry, moelleux, and sparkling—but Le Marigny is the source for one of their most reliable dry cuvées. It is a benchmark example of traditional Vouvray crafted with restraint and respect for the region’s heritage.
