The Wine
Ahhh, the dark fruit rewards of a good Zinfandel! The wine beckons the nose with tempting aromas of blackberry, black pepper, and warm spice, balanced by Hendry’s signature freshness. The 2022 season was warm but even, producing concentrated fruit without heaviness.
The wine is, of course, 100% Zinfandel, but these grapes came from two of Hendry's estate blocks - one planted in 1975, the other in 1995, both on benchland soils west of Napa. The vineyards are dry‑farmed, meticulously mapped, and harvested in small lots.
Pairings: Grilled sausages or barbecue with an aged cheddar or a firm Alpine cheese like Gruyère.
The Winery
The Hendry family has farmed their property since 1939, making it one of Napa’s most continuous, family-run estates. All of their wines come from their own estate‑grown fruit, always block‑designated and vinified with a scientific precision thanks to George Hendry’s background in both viticulture and engineering. Their Zinfandels are known for balance, restraint, and a clear sense of place.
