Alentejo, Portugal's warmest region, located in the south of the country, is known for its long history of wine production. Among its more notable wine traditions is the use of Talha (clay amphora) for aging its wines.
With this wine from Mouchao you get a red blend of Alicante Bouschet (a rare grape whose flesh is as red as its skin!), Trincadeira, Aragonês, and Touriga Nacional. These may be odd-sounding grapes, but they produce a delicious and memorable wine!
The wine makes its first impression in the glass with a deep ruby color and a purple rim. Aromas of ripe dark fruits (plums and bramble berries) with hints of vanilla, spice, and freshly cut oak.
The aromas progress to a palate that is full-bodied, with flavors of black fruit, chocolate, and tobacco. The tannins in this young wine are still firm and balanced by ample acidity, giving the wine a long and pleasant finish.
Pair with a wide variety of dishes - red meat that is grilled, roasted or braised , stews and casseroles, hard cheeses or dark chocolate.
