i Cacciagalli Piedirosso 'Mille'
i Cacciagalli Piedirosso 'Mille'
The Wine
This wine is named 'Mille' in tribute to the '1000' who fought with and supported Giuseppe Garibaldi, one of the 'fathers of modern Italy'. He commanded and fought in many military campaigns and led his thousand 'red shirts' to conquer Sicily in 1860, the first step towards the unification of Italy.
The wine is a blend of 70% Piedirosso, 20% Pallagrello Nero, 10% Aglianico - a blend that is a classic expression of the wines of Campania. The Piedirosso brings a snappy, fresh profile that is made more interesting and complex by the gravitas and alcohol of Aglianico and the unadorned earthy rusticity of Pallagrello Nero.
12.5% ABV. Native yeast ferments in porous concrete tanks to allow the wine to soften without the additional flavors wood which can sometimes mask the pure beauty of a wine like makeup on a naturally attractive face.
The Winery
Located on the 'Shin' of Italy's boot, I Cacciagalli is a combined effort from young agronomist, Diana Iannaccone, and Mario Basco, a wine connoisseur known for his talented nose and palate, but also for his pursuit of a wine’s individual story. In this case, it's a story of the men and women and unique terroir that this wine reveals.
When she took over her family's estate, Diana decided to follow non-invasive agricultural methods to build and maintain the health of the land that is her family’s estate. Uniting Diana with Mario is both their partnership and their love for their land and its deep history and traditions.
