The Wine
An electrifying blend of native varietals that produce quaffable wines that remind me of those consumed by the gallon in the Alpine regions. A complex blend of 56% Vidal Blanc / 31% Chambourcin / 11% Petit Manseng / 2% Traminette. The Vidal brings acidity, Chambourcin adds a dark pink color and a bit of tang, while the Petit Manseng contributes weight, and Traminette adds the aromatic notes. The wine saw full malolactic to soften its inherent zippiness, and it has lent the wine a gentle creaminess and roundness without muting the wine’s crunchy, tart nature.
The wine has a certain exuberance that has made it a cult favorite among Shenandoah Valley producers. Aromas feature cranberry, pomegranate and wild berries framed by an herbaceous lift that keeps the front notes of "Ocean Spray Cranberry" from being a solo act, and it's aided in that effort by notes of dried herbs and pink peppercorns.
The Winery
Ever know someone who was disgustingly good at every new thing they attempt but who are also humble and really nice. That's the reputation of the "Cool Kid" behind this tiny East Coast producer, a cooperative effort among five friends. Their goal from the beginning was to carve their own niche, one decidedly off the beaten path, which can only be described as experimental, irreverent and reflective of their region's mixed viticulture.
They eschew the polish of Provencal Rose, instead using co-ferments and blends of red and white grapes to produce wines with textural mouth feel and a notable energy.
