G Montot Wines
The Wine
Bright, layered, and delicately structured interpretation of Gamay. The grapes come from two high quality sites - the Bjornson Vineyard in the Eola–Amity Hills and Pamar Vineyard in the Van Duzer Corridor.
Though both vineyards contribute natural freshness and spice notes, the Bjornson fruit grows out of a volcanic hillside, while the Pamar grapes benefit from the corridor’s constant marine winds that preserve acidity and high-toned fruit notes that are a marker of Gamay.
Fermented with ~65% whole clusters (a common winemaking technique for Gamay), using native yeasts and a semi‑carbonic approach that keeps berries intact as long as possible. Gentle cap management and aging on lees in neutral oak for ten months preserve purity and texture. It is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting impressions: Aromas of red and purple fruit, cranberry, cherry, plum, and the slightest hint of bubble‑gum aromatics alongside more serious notes of cracked peppercorn, dried herbs, and subtle earth.
The palate is light‑bodied and energetic, with crunchy tannins, bright acidity, and a long, layered finish. A chillable red that delivers more than simplicity - playful fruit balanced by a savory, mint‑tinged memory.
Pairings: Roast chicken, charcuterie, grilled salmon, and herb‑driven dishes. Mushroom pastas, lentil stews, and dishes featuring thyme or rosemary. Cheese-wise, Alpine tommes, young Comté, or lightly aged goat cheeses whose savory depth complements the wine’s spice and freshness.
The Winery
Liska Wine Co. was founded in 2021 by Chris Butler and Draga Zheleva and named after their German Shepherd, Liska.
Their project explores the varietal diversity of Oregon’s Willamette Valley and their own sense of fun. Butler, the winemaker, focuses on minimal‑intervention techniques—native fermentations, restrained extraction, and neutral aging. Zheleva designs the labels, each one a unique linocut print that reflects the personality of the wine inside.
Their wines are known for being energetic and reflective of the fruit and terroir, emphasizing balance over weight. Liska has quickly become recognized for its thoughtful approach to Gamay, Riesling, and other varietals.
