The Wine
This is Lopez de Heredia’s classic Crianza, a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano grown in estate vineyards around Haro.
The '3 Ano' refers to the wine being aged for three years in American oak barrels, racked twice per year, and fined with fresh egg whites, followed by additional bottle aging before release. It shows a clear, bright ruby color with aromas of licorice, red fruit, and subtle spice. The palate is smooth, fresh, and persistent, offering red cherry, gentle earth, and a lifted acidity that reflects the winery’s traditional, long‑aging style. The overall profile is elegant, savory, and unmistakably old‑school Rioja.
Pairings: Roasted meats, tapas, charcuterie, and simple Spanish dishes. Cheese-wise, reach for our aged Manchego or a mild cow’s‑milk Tomme.
The Winery
R. Lopez de Heredia is one of Rioja’s most historic estates, founded in 1877 and still family‑run in the Heredia's original live/work facility in Haro. The winery uses only estate fruit and is so intent on self-sufficiency they maintain coopers (barrel-makers) on staff to build and repair all of their barrels.
The winery is known for long aging, traditional methods, and meticulous cellar work that emphasizes purity and balance. Viña Cubillo is crafted from estate fruit and aged according to the house’s classic regimen: extended barrel time, careful racking, and patient bottle aging.
