The Wine
Bright and zesty, showing citrus, lime zest, and white peach trailed by a pleasant herbal lift.
The palate is crisp and refreshing, driven by lively acidity and a light mineral edge that keeps the wine focused and dry. It’s a fresh, modern Napa/Sonoma take on Sauvignon Blanc — aromatic, balanced, and built for easy drinking.
Pairings: Oysters, ceviche, salads, goat cheese, and dishes featuring herbs or citrus. Its brightness makes it a natural aperitif.
The Winery
Picayune is a small, detail‑driven Calistoga wine project founded by Claire Weinkauf and Jennifer Roberts. They focus on sourcing high‑quality fruit from top vineyards across Napa and Sonoma. Claire brings her French aesthetic to her winemaking, and it is a welcome exception to the broad-shouldered, high alcohol wines from up-valley Napa.
The wines are crafted with minimal intervention and an emphasis on freshness, clarity, and balance. Their Sauvignon Blanc reflects this approach: careful vineyard selection, cool fermentations, and restrained winemaking that highlights purity rather than weight.
