Alluvial
The Wine
This is a quietly expressive Corsican red built on the island’s native grapes, dominated by Niellucciu with a supporting cast of Sciaccarellu.
The wine shows bright red cherry, wild strawberry, dried herbs, and a faint resinous note that feels like the maquis itself — that mix of juniper, myrtle, and scrub that defines the island’s wonderfully pervasive scent.
The 2022 vintage is fresh and lifted, with gentle tannins and a stony influence from the island’s granite and schist soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel or concrete, keeping the fruit pure and the structure light on its feet. The finish is clean, herbal, and quietly savory.
Pairings: This wine loves Mediterranean simplicity: grilled lamb, roast chicken with herbs, charcuterie, and tomato‑based dishes. For cheese, think aged sheep’s milk styles, especially those with a salty, nutty edge that mirrors the wine’s herbal notes.
The Winery
Pinia is part of the new wave of Corsican producers focused on transparency of fruit and the island’s rugged terroir.
Working in the eastern plains near Aleria, the estate farms with an eye toward biodiversity and minimal intervention, letting the native varieties speak without oak or heaviness. The Île de Beauté designation reflects wines made outside the stricter AOC boundaries but still deeply tied to Corsica’s identity — sun, wind, granite, and the ever‑present aromas of maquis.
