The Wine

A lively expression of young Nebbiolo sourced from hillside vineyards in the Langhe region near the great zones of Barolo and Barbaresco.

Castella's grapes are harvested by hand and fermented at controlled temperatures to preserve the high-toned fruit notes. Aging also occurs in stainless steel but with the addition of some large, neutral oak casks - decisions made in pursuit of a wine that is fresh and aromatic and ready to enjoy in the near-term.

Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and trailing violet, sweet spice and earth. The palate is medium‑bodied and lively, offering crisp red fruit, fine tannins, and a clean, mineral finish created by the calcareous (a limestone type) soils of the region.

Pairings: Highly versatile! Roasted poultry, grilled vegetables, and braised meats. Cheese-wise, a semi‑aged cow’s‑milk Tomme or a young sheep’s‑milk cheese.

The Winery

Renzo Castella is a small, family‑run estate rooted in the hills of the Langhe, where Nebbiolo is the region's defining grape.

The family focuses on careful vineyard work, moderate yields, and restrained winemaking that highlights varietal purity and regional character. The “Madonnina” bottling comes from select parcels chosen for balance and aromatic finesse, allowing the wine to express Nebbiolo’s floral, red‑fruited side without the weight of extended oak aging.
