The Wine

a vibrant expression of Rossese, the signature red grape of western Liguria. Produced in the tiny Dolceacqua DOC near the French border, the wine takes its name from the region's sandstone soils, known as arenaria. Fermented with a portion of whole clusters and employing semi-carbonic maceration, the wine is crafted to emphasize aromatic complexity, freshness and the naturally delicate character of Rossese.

Light on its feet but full of personality and complexity - this is a versatile red that can (and should) be served slightly chilled (55-58F), and that in keeping with Ligurian tradition can be paired with fish & tomato-based dishes and soups (esp fish stew with fennel and tomato).

Fermented with some whole clusters and a semi-carbonic maceration to add layers of aromatic complexity without sacrificing Rossese's quintessential energy and lightness.

Pairings: Fish stew with fennel and tomato, grilled tuna, roasted poultry, rabbit with olives, mushroom dishes, charcuterie, or tomato-based pasta preparations. As is traditional in Liguria, it may be served slightly chilled, enhancing its freshness and versatility at the table.

The Producer

Roberto Rondelli began his winemaking journey in 2000 when he repurchased his grandfather's vineyards in the hills of Camporosso in the tiny Dolceacqua appellation. Working with his father, he replanted the family holdings with traditional local varieties including Rossese, Vermentino and Pigato. After years of experimentation, his first commercial wines were released in 2009 - the beginning of a project dedicated to expressing the unique terroir of western Liguria.

Today, Rondelli farms certified organic vineyards and incorporates biodynamic practices throughout his viticulture. Native yeast fermentations, minimal Sulphur use and unfiltered bottlings are central to his philosophy, allowing each vineyard site and grape variety to express itself with clarity. Production remains intentionally small, with fewer than 15,000 bottles (1,250 cases) made annually. His wines have become respected examples of the distinctive character of Dolceacqua, a tiny appellation overlooking the Mediterranean where Rossese produces elegant, aromatic reds marked by freshness, spice and a strong sense of place.
