The Wine

The wine's shows pretty, perfumed aromas with hints of white peach, elderflower, and fresh citrus zest. The palate is equally enticing, partly due to Siegloch’s use of spontaneous wild-yeast fermentations. The grape’s floral charm is balanced by bass notes from the vineyard’s sandstone soils that lend a subtle minerality to the pretty fruit.

At just 10.5% alcohol, the wine is perfect for a hot summer day when a cold white wine goes down ooohhhhhh sooooo easily - crisp, gently tropical, and irresistibly refreshing. The finish is clean with a freshness that invites another sip. It’s Muskateller in its most honest, vibrant form — aromatic without excess.

Pairings: look to light and fresh dishes - exactly the sort you reach for in the summer months. Vietnamese spring rolls or salads, Thai papaya salad, ceviche, shrimp sauteed with citrus zest and marjoram, and fresh goat cheese with herbed olive oil, Mt Tam or anything from Andante Dairy!

The Winery

Siegloch Estate is in Germany's Württemberg area, where they've quickly become known as a young, dynamic winery. I can't easily describe the difficulty of elbowing your way through a crowded field of Germany's wine cognoscenti with centuries of experience, tradition and family continuity to gain the attention of the world's wine media.

But Siegloch has managed to do so by focusing on unpretentious, character-driven wines crafted with minimal intervention and a strong sense of place. It doesn't hurt that brothers Markus and Robin Siegloch are camera-ready hipsters. But they also craft wines that speak for themselves by adhering to the hands-off doctrine followed by most of the producers we select - spontaneous fermentations, minimal intervention, and a style emphasizing freshness, texture, and authenticity across their range.

Their vineyards provide the structural backbone for their wines - a balance of aromatic lift with mineral precision. While the estate produces everything from Riesling to Cabernet Franc to pét-nat, their Muskateller has become a signature expression: lively, fragrant, and crafted to be enjoyed with the same ease and joy with which it’s made.
