Planet Wine
The Wine
A dark‑fruited expression of Cabernet, shaped by Sonoma's mix of warm days and cool evenings combined with its diverse mixture of benchland soils.
Deep ruby in color, the wine offers aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum skin and dark cherry, layered with graphite, cedar, cocoa and a subtle dried‑herb note that adds lift and complexity.
The palate is full but balanced, offering ripe black fruit, cassis, blueberry and cherry compote carried by firm yet refined tannins. A thread of savory spice—bay leaf, tobacco, cracked pepper—runs through the mid‑palate, supported by well‑integrated oak that contributes structure without dominating the fruit. The finish is long and dry with a power that shows richness and restraint.
The rruit is sourced from select Sonoma sites chosen for their balance of ripe fruit and natural, mouth-watering acidity. A gentle extraction and cool fermentation followed by aging in a mix of French and American oak create a Cabernet that is expressive and structured. Ideal for immediate enjoyment and short‑term cellaring.
Pairings: Grilled ribeye, tri‑tip, lamb chops, mushroom ragout and dishes where dark fruit and savory spice complement richer flavors. For cheese pairings, reach for our aged Gouda, a clothbound cheddar, blue cheeses such as Bayley Hazen or Point Reyes Blue, and firm Alpine styles like Comté or Gruyère.
The Winery
A tiny, cultish project born from a group of friends who bonded over late‑night tastings and a shared obsession with cool‑climate Pinot Noir. The name of the winery was drawn from their use of grapes from five different vineyards in Sonoma's Russian River Valley.
Their wines are made in extremely small quantities, with a focus on finesse, whole‑cluster aromatics, and vineyard transparency. The Russian doll image on the label provides a bit of insight into the informal, passion‑driven nature of the project.
